Abstract

Milling machine is a way to remove chipes from the workpiece with the help of a cutting tool that rotates and has a row of cutting edges around its circumference. Surface roughness is one of the deviations caused by the cutting conditions of the machining process. Surface characteristics are influenced by several cutting parameters, including cutting speed, feeding depth, feeding speed, cutting time, and chipes producing speed. This study aims to determine the effect of cutting parameters on surface roughness. Variations used at spindle speeds of 410 rpm, 460 rpm, 660 rpm, with feeding 167 mm/min, 186 mm/min, 287 mm/min, and depth of cut 0.2 mm, 0.4 mm, 0.6 mm End Mill HSS chisel diameter 14 mm, and Medium Carbon Steel (AISI 1045). From the research that has been carried out, it shows that the best cutting parameters with the lowest roughness are 660 rpm, feeding 287 mm/min, with a feeding depth of 0.2 getting a roughness value of Ra 3,568 µm
