Abstract

A study on the adsorption of Cu(II) in water-humic system on -alumina has been conducted. The humic acid (AH) sample was isolated from peat soil of Siantan, Pontianak, West Kalimantan using a modified Internasional Humic Substance Society (IHSS)method. Adsorption of Cu(II) and copper(II)-humic acid (Cu-AH) was carried out in batch system in the presence and absence of AH. The consentration 0f total Cu and hydrated Cu(II) were determined using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer and Ionic Selective Electrode (ISE) respectively. The adsorption in batch system showed the affinity of -alumina was the higest for AH and followed for hydtated Cu(II). Interaction between -alumina with AH occured through electrostatic attraction between two charged layers, i.e the positively charged -alumina and negatively charged AH layers
